Wheat

Wheat is a type of grass grown all over the world for its highly nutritious and useful grain. It is one of the top three most produced crops in the world, along with corn and rice.
Wheat has been cultivated for over 10,000 years and probably originates in the Fertile Crescent, along with other staple crops. A wide range of wheat products are made by humans, including most famously flour, which is made from the grain itself

There are six different classes of wheat: hard red winter, hard red spring, soft red winter, hard white, soft white and durum.

The end products are determined by the wheat's characteristics, especially protein and gluten content. The harder the wheat, the higher the amount of protein in the flour. Soft, low protein wheats are used in cakes, pastries, cookies, crackers and Oriental noodles. Hard, high protein wheats are used in breads and quick breads. Durum is used in pasta and egg noodles

BULK WHEAT TRANSPORT OPTIONS

Bulk wheat can be packed in various ways depending on the quantity, transportation method, and storage conditions. Here are some common options:

  • Bulk Bags: Also known as FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container) bags, these are large woven polypropylene bags that can hold up to 2,000 pounds of wheat. They are durable, reusable, and cost-effective. Bulk bags are typically used for shipping wheat via truck or rail.

  • Bulk Rail Cars: Rail cars can transport large quantities of wheat, up to 110 tons. These cars have specialized hatches and outlets for easy loading and unloading.

  • Bulk Truck Trailers: Similar to rail cars, trucks can also transport large quantities of wheat, up to 25 tons. These trailers have bottom discharge doors or hatches that allow for easy unloading.

  • Silo Storage: Silos are large storage containers designed to hold bulk grains like wheat. They are typically made of steel or concrete and come in various sizes. Silos are a popular choice for farmers and grain elevators as they provide long-term storage in a controlled environment.

  • Portable Grain Bags: Portable grain bags are made of durable polyethylene and can hold up to 16,000 bushels of wheat. These bags are ideal for temporary storage and can be easily moved from one location to another.

Overall, the choice of packing option for bulk wheat depends on several factors such as transportation method, storage duration, and cost.
